Marangu Route

Marangu Route -5 Days trek

On the Marangu Route, climbers can choose a 5-day itinerary, which offers a straightforward path to the summit. Starting at Marangu Gate, this route takes you through diverse climate zones, including lush tropical rainforests, heath, moorland, and finally to the icy landscapes near the summit. The trail is well-marked and features hut accommodations for overnight stays, making it unique among the Kilimanjaro routes.

While the 5-day plan allows climbers to reach Uhuru Peak, it offers less time for acclimatization, which can affect the chances of success. The Marangu Route is popular because it’s the most accessible and cost-effective option, making it suitable for hiking even during the rainy season.

Due to its popularity, this route can become crowded, particularly during peak months from July to September and December to March. Although many climbers successfully reach the summit on the 5-day itinerary, those who opt for the 6-day option typically enjoy a higher success rate, as the extra day allows for better acclimatization and reduces the risk of altitude sickness.
